Czabe Out at Fox Sports Radio

Today was not a good day. Returning to the morning commute was bad enough. Discovering Steve Czaban was off as Fox Sports Radios morning host, was even worse.

The network then added salt to the wounds of listeners by naming blowhard Steve A. Smith as Czabe’s replacement.

I listened to SAS today and that middle initial “A” was for abysmal. More on that later.

Steve Czaban is/was more of a fan than an analyst. He freely offered opinions. “Male Chauvinist Pig” (MCP) was a popular 70s term for ingrate males. Surely some would use that term for Czabe.

My 12-year-old daughter, who had to bear Czaban’s rants for five years on the way to school, regularly dubbed him “immature.”

However, if you read some of blogs on the issue, Czaban built s loyal national following. Much like Howard Stern, his political incorrectness worked.

Humor, especially on radio, is one of the hardest things in this World to accomplish. He did that.

Many posters want to complain to Fox Sports, which chose not to renew Czaban’s contract. That’s a waste of time. They let the talented host get away.

Hopefully, the other national radio syndicators (ESPN, Sporting News) will reap benefits from Fox’s loss. Talent rises to the top. Czaban will resurface again.

Smith spent a good deal of today’s show discussing Tiger Woods and his issues. Perhaps MCP holdovers enjoyed his shtick today. He repeatedly said Elin Woods “could not take care of Tiger in the bedroom.”

If it was an attempt at humor by Smith, it didn’t work.

Smith, who failed as an ESPN TV host, comes across as a buffoon ill-suited to radio.

My radio will be turned to another station in the morning, and probably the rest of the day.
